James Houston: Let's Talk About Sex: A Call to Action for the Sake of American Teens' Health

As a fashion photographer, I shoot a lot of pictures that contribute to the sexual imagery that confront youth every day in America. While American teens live in a society that uses sex to sell everything from lipstick to laptops, they are rarely afforded opportunities to discuss sex in an open, honest way. Because of my work in many different countries and cultures, and my involvement in a project called Move For Aids, I became interested in the issue and decided to take a deeper look at how America's inability to talk about sex really impacts teens.

I was really shocked by what I found. Every day in America, 10,000 teens catch a sexually transmitted disease, 2,400 teen girls get pregnant, and 55 young people are infected with HIV. Also consider these cold, hard facts:

But I wasn't just shocked by the statistics but also by the fact that most people are unaware of how bad the situation really is and also how valuable open communication and education can be in alleviating the problem.

After processing what I had learned, my mission became to bring these shocking facts to life through film and in the process offer some real solutions to try and improve the situation. That film is called Let's Talk About Sex. For three years, I traveled through the United States and Western Europe on a journey to understand common trends on sex and sexuality, and to profile young Americans who have been directly affected by the current lack of honest, open conversation. These teens are powerful advocates for change, navigating the real world with little guidance about sexuality, and occasionally facing devastating consequences as a result.

The film highlights the price young people pay for a culture where fear, shame, and denial too often undermine education, communication, and basic common sense. It looks at a broad swath of the American teenage experience -- from a teen in Atlanta, GA who discusses the disconnect between the virginity pledge movement and the reality of teen's lives, to college students talking about the "hook up" culture of college, and a young gay man who was infected with HIV at age 17 talks about the impact the lack of sex education and information has on gay teens.

Let's Talk About Sex concludes in Oregon, where some of the lessons learned in Western Europe are helping to create practical solutions. The differences between Europe and America are staggering. If the U.S. were able to achieve the sexual health outcomes on a par with the Netherlands, American teens each year would experience 600,000 fewer pregnancies, 350,000 fewer births and 63,000 fewer abortions. The annual savings for American taxpayers would reach $505 million.

The Internet and modern life have changed the playing field for teens. Now more than ever, we need to stand up and make sure young people have honest, reliable information and communication around this issue. Sexuality is such a big part of who we are, and I believe that most people want to talk to their children about it but they just don't know how. Let's Talk About Sex was created as a tool for parents, educators and community leaders to initiate healthy, age-appropriate conversations about sexual health across America. Only a community effort will really solve this problem, so please join me in getting this important message out.

Katie Holmes On 'The Kennedys,' Suri's X-Rated Gummies

Katie Holmes is out in full force to promote her controversial new miniseries, "The Kennedys," and well, clear the air about a recent candy mishap.

Holmes stars as Jackie Kennedy in the Joel Surnow-produced eight part miniseries about America's most famous political family. Airing on ReelzChannel after being dropped by The History Channel, it has received mostly negative reviews thus far.

While critics say the show unfairly portrays the family in a harsh light, Holmes told Entertainment Weekly that she gained a stronger admiration for her character.

"I had my idea of this lady, but I didn't realize the extent of what she did for our country and her influence on foreign policy, how she brought such elegance to the White House," Holmes said. "Her manners were impeccable. She created the idea of Camelot. She was so very wise. You never really know, playing a real character like that. The challenge was honoring her and also making it my own."

Meanwhile, she's also dealing with a far sillier media outcry: her four year old daughter's choice of gummi snacks. Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres in an episode of her show set to air Friday, Holmes explained the situation behind the photos snapped of Suri with some X-rated candy.

"Recently, I took her to get ice cream in New York at this place called Serendipity that we go to all the time," she said. "It's for kids. The clientele is children. We go in and we are waiting for a table and she grabs some gummies that are boy part gummies. I was horrified.

"They are called p-e-n-i-s gummies and they look like it," Holmes continued. "She was holding the box and I was like ok, wow we don't need that right now. Because I thought if I said put that back and then she's going to say, what is this? And I really didn't want to have that conversation. I was like, why are selling these here? This is for kids. And then it was on the cover of a magazine that I'm giving her those gummies."

Wilkins' Alleged Attacker: 'I'm Gonna Sue!'

The man accused of attacking NBA legend Dominique Wilkins says he's the real victim and he's planning to sue over the alleged beat down.

TMZ spoke with Rashan Michel -- a former NBA referee -- and he claims he was calmly trying to work out a deal over the money he says 'Nique owes him for custom suits.

Michel claims Wilkins responded by yelling, "F**k You!" ... then security wrestled him to the ground ... and that's when the Hall of Famer slugged him. Michel is adamant that he did NOT hit Wilkins first.

Michel tells us he plans on suing Wilkins and the Hawks organization -- as well as subpoenaing the surveillance footage ... which he claims proves his side of the story.

Prince Harry is up near the North Pole prepping for his trek with wounded veterans. But anybody interviewing him has to sneak in a question about his brother's upcoming wedding and the recent bachelor party Harry is said to have thrown for Prince William.

"I'm not going to talk about that," Harry told ABC News' Bob Woodruff during an interview in Svalbard, Norway, for Good Morning America.

The young prince , did open up a little about the upcoming nuptials.

"It's a big deal. It's not just a normal wedding," said Prince Harry. "It's a really big decision for him to bring Kate into the family."

Harry, who will be William's best man at the April 29 wedding, said he hasn't started working on his speech yet. "I am doing the speech along with a couple of his friends, so I will take the mickey out of him. I will have a few stories," he said. "I think my grandmother will be there so I have to be selective, as one might say. .. We will make sure people know the good times and bad times he's had since he was a nipper."

The prince would not say who he was taking to the wedding. "It's not my wedding, I'm just going to be there."

Harry also said he is looking forward to having Middleton in the family. "She's a fantastic girl, she really is, my brother is very lucky," said Harry. "She's very lucky to find my brother. The two of them are a classic match."

Harry said his dad, Prince Charles, has been heavily involved in the wedding plans. "He's obsessed with his music," said Harry. Charles and Kate "have been slaving away, getting everything right."

As the interview wrapped up the young royal got in a final parting show. "Nice, try getting me to talk about the stag weekend," said Harry. "That was never going to happen."

Teen Mom's Jenelle Evans: Brittany Maggard Sold Our Fight Tape for $45,000

What does Jenelle Evans' caught-on-camera catfight with Britany Truett and Brittany Maggard have in common with professional wrestling?

The answer, according to Evans, is that someone earned some major cash.

The Teen Mom 2 star, whose legal troubles seem to be mounting at every turn, exclusively tells E! News that Maggard sold the tape of their fight to the media for $45,000.

Who says there's such a thing as bad publicity again?

"She told me herself and I got very upset," Evans said Wednesday. "I cried for two hours."

Multiple attempts to reach Maggard for comment were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, Evans has been charged with misdemeanor assault and affray in connection with the attack, the footage of which was first posted by TMZ.

Maggard, who admits to picking a fight with Evans, was arrested also and charged with simple assault. The stunt came back to bite her again today, however, when she was busted today for alleged probation violation in connection with a separate assault case in 2010.

Evans' lawyer, in turn, is ready to argue that his client was set up if this case goes before a jury.

On the flip side, Evans' alleged victim, Truett, who's charged with simple affray, is gearing up to claim self-defense.

"I think we have a very solid self defense claim and we are continuing to investigate the matter," Truett's attorney, Adrian Iaplucci, tells E! News. "We are ready to take care of this as soon as possible."

Truett's court date is April 22. Evans is due back in court for this on April 26 (though she'll first appear on April 14 to answer to drug and breaking and entering charges, and then later on April 29 for yet more alleged infractions).

Colin Farrell will always have a place in his heart for Elizabeth Taylor.

As one of the few non-family members to attend Taylor's private funeral last week, the actor reveals how the two struck up an unlikely, yet powerful friendship in the actress' final years.

"How did we become friends? You know, the old story of boy meets girl, and boy pesters girl with too many phone calls at inappropriate hours of the night," Farrell, 34, tells "Access Hollywood."

"I was just lucky enough to become her friend in the last year and a half," he adds.� "I adore her ... still."

And it seems the feeling was mutual - just last month the "Cleopatra" star, who passed away from congestive heart failure at the age of 79, made sure to sing the praises of her favorite Irish actor during an interview in the March issue of Harper's Bazaar.

"I love Johnny Depp, and I love Colin Farrell," said Taylor, a two-time Oscar winner. "They're both brilliant, nuanced actors with great range."

But the pair's relationship was always deeper than professional admiration. Farrell says he was "sad and honored" when asked to recite a special poem, Gerard Manley Hopkins' "The Leaden Echo and the Golden Echo," at Taylor's funeral. �

"Elizabeth chose it. It was a tricky poem as well," Farrell laughs. "Even in passing she had me under the thumb, sweating bricks."

Enrique Iglesias dropped out of the upcoming Britney Spears concert tour because his ego couldn't handle being her opening act ... multiple sources connected with the tour tell TMZ.

We're told lawyers and agents for Britney and Enrique were hammering out an agreement for weeks, and the terms were finessed to make Enrique appear to be a co-headliner.� We're told both sides agreed to the deal and that's why the announcement was made Tuesday.

But just hours before Britney's camp went public, Enrique was burning up the phone lines and the Internet, engaging various people connected with the tour in lengthy conversations in which he made it clear -- he was, in reality, Britney's opening act and he wanted out.

One source says the deal was actually very favorable to Enrique ... "great terms and great placement."� But we're told it all came down to taking the stage before Brit -- too much to handle.

Denise Richards increases security after Charlie Sheen's threat

Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen, shown in 2003, no longer have a picture-perfect relationship.

As Charlie Sheen continues to spiral further out of control, his ex-wife Denise Richards is trying even harder to shield their kids from his wild ways.

Richards, who has openly admitted to keeping daughters ? 7-year-old Sam and 5-year-old Lola ? away from the media during their father's very public meltdowns, has now reportedly decided to increase her security detail.

The decision comes shortly after Sheen, 45, vilified Richards, 40, in a thinly-veiled tweet that suggested he might harm her over a dispute involving their dogs.

Though the couple divorced in 2006 after four years of marriage, Sheen reportedly retained possession of their two pugs. According to TMZ.com, Richards recently heard that the dogs were being mistreated, prompting her to remove them from Sheen's home.

One of the dogs later died of malnutrition, but Sheen is on a hunt to get the other canine back.

TMZ has learned ... Maksim's special guest -- a woman named Lisa -- had a VIP parking spot waiting for her when she arrived to the studio ... and was greeted by the "Dancing" star himself.

Sources connected to Lisa tell us ... she was then treated to a full tour of the backstage area where she met Kendra Wilkinson and Tony Dovolani. In fact, Tony even took Lisa to his trailer to hang out and take pictures!!!

The best part -- Maksim is currently getting every single cast member of the show to sign an official "Dancing with the Stars"� t-shirt for Lisa which will be sent to her within the next couple of days.�

Lindsay Lohan Won't Be Prosecuted for Rehab Scuffle

Finally! Some good news for Lindsay Lohan. After several months of investigation, the Riverside County District Attorney has decided not to prosecute Lohan for assaulting a Betty Ford employee, PEOPLE reports.

"We are not filing any charges in the Lindsay Lohan case due to insufficient evidence," DA spokesman John Hall told PEOPLE.

Lohan was under investigation for battery after a scuffle with Dawn Holland, a Betty Ford staff member, while there for treatment. The case involved an alleged altercation that happened after Lohan and her roommates left the clinic and came back from a bar at 1:03 A.M. on Dec. 12. The altercation is categorized as a "hand to hand battery."

The District Attorney claims the investigation was like any other and was not given special treatment. "It wasn't looked at any differently than other cases, and we didn't put any special priority on this," Hall said. "We also had to re-interview subsequent times several witnesses in the case."

Unfortunately, this turn of events isn't the end of Lohan's legal troubles. The starlet returns to court on April 22 for a preliminary hearing over a

Ninety percent of individual investors "invest" this way:

Using the Internet, discount brokers or retail brokers, you try to guess the direction of the markets. You follow the financial news. You pick stocks or mutual funds you are told will outperform. You are filled with anxiety, confused, distressed and frustrated. The returns published by top performing mutual funds far exceed your returns. You wonder who is getting those returns. How did those investors know a particular fund was going to do so well?

The predictions of the talking heads on the financial media are mesmerizing. They sound so knowledgeable and intelligent. But if they really have predictive powers, how did they miss the market crash in 2008 and the rapid recovery which continues to date? If you take the time to review the data, you are troubled to learn their track record is no better than the toss of the coin. Is this an intelligent way to plan for retirement?

You don't trust the securities industry. You can't forget it was these "investment gurus" who brought us to the brink of a worldwide depression. If they can't manage their own money, what qualifies them to manage yours? You read about the insider trading scandals and it confirms your suspicion that the playing field is not level. What chance do you have if these guys are on the other side of your trade? It's not just the crooks like Madoff who make you nervous. You have the niggling feeling the entire system is one giant Ponzi scheme, which is simply a pretense for the transfer of your money to those who manage it.

If you have a 401(k) plan, and your employer matches, you still get little comfort. The number of investment options is bewildering. You have no idea how to put together a globally diversified portfolio in an asset allocation appropriate for you. No one at your company can help you. The web site provided by the record keeper for the fund is helpful, but you don't get any advice tailored for you. You keep reading about conflicts of interest and excessive fees in these plans. You know something is wrong, but you have no idea how to fix it.

You have lost confidence in the SEC. It is under funded and under staffed. Most of its employees are just doing their time to build up their resume so they can jump to lucrative jobs with the same industry they are "regulating." You can't forget the sound byte provided by Harry Markopolos in his congressional testimony into the failure of the SEC to detect the Madoff fraud, even though he laid it out for them in agonizing detail: "If you flew the entire SEC staff to Boston, and sat them in Fenway Park, they wouldn't be able to find first base." Can you depend on these lost souls to protect you from Wall Street?

Welcome to what passes for investing in the USA.

Following these simple steps would increase your returns significantly (based on historical data), eliminate your anxiety and put you in control of your finances:

1. Formulate an investing goal. Most investors don't have one. If you don't know how much you will need to accumulate in retirement assets so you (and your surviving spouse or partner) can maintain your quality of life and not die destitute and dependent on others, this would be a worthy goal. 2. Fire your "market beating" retail broker or advisor. They have no predictive powers. They can't pick stocks or time the market. Most of them can't even calculate the risk of your portfolio. Their primary goal is to generate fees or commissions, while purporting to have an expertise that doesn't exist.

3. Determine your asset allocation. Invest in a globally diversified portfolio of low cost stock and bond index funds.

4. If you are not familiar with the research of Eugene Fama and Kenneth French, take the time to learn what the largest and most sophisticated investors in the world know about investing. You won't find this information in the financial media or at the office of your retail broker.

This is what investing should be about. It should be investor centric. At present, it's broker centric. The securities industry is fighting hard to keep it that way.
