Russell Brand: I had to 'readdress everything' before being monogamous

Russell Brand's wild ways have been tamed by his wife, Katy Perry, whom he married last year.

As his Sanskrit tattoo suggests, Russell Brand is learning how to "go with the flow" ? all thanks to his marriage to Katy Perry.

"There are a lot of areas where I've simply relinquished decision-making," he admitted in the April issue of Details. "It really does make my mates laugh, though. I do not go with the flow. I quarrel with flows. I build dams. I drain lakes. I split oceans when required."�

But life with the pop star, 26, is dramatically different than the years Brand, 35, spent growing up and as a bachelor.

Instead of self-harming, he finds himself protecting his young wife, such as from the noises she hears at night in their palatial Los Feliz, Calif., estate.

"That's always happening. Every bloody night," he revealed to the mag. "I don't want to meet a burglar! What'll I say? 'Hello, mate, don't be alarmed. I'm really much more famous in England, y'know.' "

Sure, Brand uses his wedded bliss as fodder for jokes, but it's done in a genuine, relatable way.

"Because now I have something to protect, and it is very odd indeed," he said. "There are a lot of things you have to amend to be in a monogamous relationship. I've had to readdress everything and start buying deck furniture. On the Titanic. Avoiding the constant icebergs. In the end, putting snowshoes on the bottom of it?"

But, like on the Titanic before it sunk, life for the two stars is often quite glamorous. Their home boasts four stories and a two-tier swimming pool, according to Details.

And there's also ? almost inexplicably ? a 25-foot teepee.

"We bought that for our last Valentine's Day," Brand said. "I suppose those are the kind of sentences that rather mock my insistence that everything is normal.

It makes Brand's summation of his marriage all the more fitting.

It's "at once the most mundane and spectacular thing in the world," he said.
