Kara DioGuardi: 'I almost died' after eating pot brownies

Kara DioGuardi was 'high as a kite' after unwittingly eating pot-laced brownies at Paula Abdul's.

The "American Idol" finale on Wednesday proved ? to no surprise ? that the show could indeed survive without former judges Kara DioGuardi and Paula Abdul.

Amazingly enough, the series' continued success hasn't stopped DioGuardi, 40, from reflecting on her time on and off the set.

But it wasn't all fun and games. DioGuardi revealed on yesterday's "Lopez Tonight" that she once accidentally ate pot brownies at Abdul's house ? landing her in the hospital.

The incident, which happened before the two teamed up on "Idol," left DioGuardi feeling high enough that she fell out of bed, though she didn't know that marijuana was the cause.

When emergency personnel arrived, they quickly determined "this b---h is high as a kite," she recalled.

"But they weren't hers," DioGuardi explained of finding the brownies in Abdul's kitchen. "Someone had left them from a party and [froze] them."

"I had six," the songwriter said. "I almost died."

Several hallucinations and I.V. treatments later, DioGuardi recovered.
