Nicole Scherzinger has officially been confirmed as Cheryl Cole's replacement on the US X Factor.

The feisty Geordie was rumoured to have been offered her job back, but now Fox and Syco TV have announced that former Pussycat Doll singer Nicole will join Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and LA Reid as the 4th judge.

'Fox, Fremantelemedia North America and Syco TV today confirm Nicole Scherzinger will be replacing Cheryl Cole on the judging panel of THE X FACTOR,' a statement reads.

'Nicole will join Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid and Paula Abdul on their search across America to find the next global superstar or group to win the life-changing $5 million dollar recording deal.'

But Cheryl, 27, is expected to make an appearance again as a 5th 'guest judge', as Simon, 51, still wants her to be in the series.

The media mogul told PR guru Max Clifford: 'I've made it clear from the start, I've made it clear to everybody at Fox and Fremantle, the people involved, that my choice would be to have Cheryl Cole on the show.'

US TV executives have reportedly made Cheryl Cole an offer� - and she has 24 hours to decide whether she wants to return in the new role.

'It's far from certain she'll say yes,' a close source tells The Sun.
