John Edwards' Smiley Mugshot

Putting on a happy face for a rather serious photo, John Edwards' mug shot has just been released courtesy of the U.S. Marshals Service.

The former U.S. Senator has been charged with conspiracy, four counts of illegal campaign contributions and one count of making a false statement.

A grand jury has been investigating whether money given to support Edwards' mistress, Rielle Hunter, by benefactors of Edwards should have been considered campaign donations, a contention Edwards' team has disputed.

John has pleaded not-guilty to the conspiracy and campaign law violations.
