Secont 'Operation Pothole' fills 24,000 of them
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and City Councilman Tony Cardenas filled a pothole Monday on Cedros Street, adding to the more than 24,000 filled by city crews during a weekend "Operation Pothole" campaign.
The weekend "Operation Pothole" was the second this year, with the city crews filling 10,000 potholes in January during the winter storms.
The mayor said the latest effort was designed to coincide with the July 1 start of the new $6.9 billion city budget, which contains funds to fill 300,000 potholes, a 20 percent increase over this year's funding.
"For many Angelenos, quality of life directly correlates with the quality of their daily commute," Villaraigosa said. "By filling potholes this weekend, we have helped improve our streets, reduced the amount of time residents spend in their cars as well as how much money they spend on auto repairs."
Cardenas urged residents to call 311 to report potholes. The city Bureau of Street Services has a goal of filling all potholes within 48 hours of their being reported.
